Peru is a country that has pass through terrible security problems in the past decades. It has suffered from terrorism which destroy the tranquility and peace in the whole territory, indeed, terrorism was one of the main peruvian problems in the 90's.

Nevertheless, nowadays the terrorism is considered a 90% solved problem and the counrty is living a time of peace and economical prosperity.

This situation of Growth permits the development of Tourism in the country.

If the traveler is seeking for traveling to far areas away from cities, like the jungle or specifi places for study, it is better to find out if the zone is completely safe.

The Crime Rate in Peru is still a big issue of the country, especially in central areas like Lima downtown or crowded places. In general terms Peru is a safe country, and like any other country in the world it is important to have some precautionary measures.

  • In Peru any person can put a sign in their car and become a cabdriver so if you take a taxi do not choose the cabdriver that offers the service to you, you have to choose the taxi for yourself, the official taxis in the city are of yellow color they have luminous cap in the ceiling.
  • If you have doubts about the taxi, there are businesses that offer the service of taxi but the prices are high.
  • When removing money of the ATMS do it in the morning or in the afternoon and try not to go alone and if you are alone try to go to a cashier that have a police close.
  • A VERY IMPORTANT recommendation that surely you have been told about, NEVER accept a package, gift, jacket, or whatever from a strange person and especially do not transport the things of another person, it doesn't matter if he/she seems very good and kind you should always be careful in that sense.

Despite that terrorism has been fought and an atmosphere of peace throughout the country can be felt, the terrorist group Sendero Luminoso, still operates in remote areas, located in the inhabited virgin forest.

There are not negative incidents occurred in the country in areas normally visited by tourists. The tourist corridors are safe and reliable.
