The Misti is the third more dangerous volcano of the world and the first one of Peru, located within the National Reserve of Salinas y Aguada Blanca, it is the tutelary volcano of the White City of Arequipa, and its form is the one of a perfect cone.

Extension

El Misti volcano occupies an area of 200 km2, reaching an altitude of 5,800 meters and its crater is just 18 km from the center of the city of Arequipa.

Studies

The Misti volcano rises 5822 meters high on the second city of Peru, Arequipa, which has a population of more of a million inhabitants. The geologic studies indicate that the Misti has had five eruptions of smaller importance this century, and one important eruption in the XV century what forced the residents to flee out of the city. In spite of the obvious danger, the authorities of the civil defense consider it as a not danger volcano, and the planners of the city are not avoiding the development in the side of the volcano of the city.

Other volcanos of the same occidental chain as Sabancaya and Ubinas are in continuous activity from several years.

Eruptions

The last half-full eruption was registered in the XV Century, had magnitude between low and moderate and the ashes reached to 6x106m3.

Climbing the volcano

One of the Ascents most recommended because of its beautiful landscape is the ascent to Misti Volcano since it means a great challenge for the most adventurous travelers. Conquering the top of this great volcano and in general to reach its summit is a indescriptible emotion.
