Currency in Peru
From Wiki Sumaq Peru
The official currency of Peru is the Nuevo Sol (S/.) and each Sol is divided in 100 cents, it circulates in currencies of 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents, 1, 2 and 5 Nuevos Soles and in bills of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 Nuevos soles.
The North American dollar is accepted in most of the commercial places, restaurants and stations.
In relation to a foreign currency, the most accepted currency is the dollar, another currency will be difficult to change outside Lima. Sometimes occurs that the salesmen, the stores or the taxis do not have cash for big bills so always try to have simple and small bills. Also when you receive the bills try that they are not in bad conditions, old or broken because many salesmen, moneychangers, banks do not receive these damaged bills. Also review the bill very well because in Lima circulate false dollars and false Soles so is always good to review the money to make sure.

Change of Money
There are 4 ways to exchange money, it can be exchanged in hotels, banks, exchange bureau and finally with the moneychangers on the street. The best choice is to change in an authorized exchange bureau since they usually offer a better exchange rate (inclusively better than in the bank).
It is not advisable to change in the hotel since usually they give a change rate very low as well is not either recommendable to change on the street (with the moneychangers) since there is the danger to be swindled and being robbed on the streets.
The exchange rate is variable, to know the exchange rate of the day you can enter to The Peruvian, or to The Supervision of Bank and Insurances.
