The Amazonas region is also known as "The Kingdom of the Chachapoyas" because the development of the Chachapoyas culture in the years 800 to 1300 AD was this region of Peru. The area is made up of jungle and mountain regions, the area of jungle has a 72.93% of the total area. The zone covers 27.07% highlands of the total in the region. Amazonas is a department with a wonderful diversity: as folklore, lifestyle, archeology and cultural development, all this makes Amazonas a destination very mysterious and enigmatic.

The department of Amazonas includes two regions, on one hand the typical steep territory of the Andes (Mountain range), and on the other, zones of forest with extensive plains and hills of little altitude, like in the provinces of Bagua, Ucubamba and Condorcanqui.

  3. Tarapoto - Moyobamba - Chachapoyas: 361 km (approximately 7 or 8 hours by car)

Aerial

Hay vuelos regulares desde la ciudad de Lima hasta la ciudad de Chachapoyas (aproximadamente 2 horas): Lima - Tarapoto - Chachapoyas. Es posible contratar vuelos para gurpos desde Chiclayo hasta Chachapoyas. También se ofrecen vuelos no regulares desde las ciudades de Moyobamba y Rioja.

There are regular flights from the city of Lima to the city of Chachapoyas (approximately 2 hours): Lima - Tarapoto - Chachapoyas. It is possible to hire flights for groups from Chiclayo to Chachapoyas. Also nonregular flights are offered from the cities of Moyobamba and Rioja.

Main Square of Chachapoyas
It is located at the center of the city and it is surrounded by commerce and public buildings between whom it emphasizes the archbishopric that occupies the house where Toribio Rodriguez de Mendoza was born, he was a precursor of Peruvian independence, and the Provincial City Hall. In the center of the square it emphasizes a colonial origin bronze sink.

Well of Yanayacu

Levanto archaeological rest
It is located towards the south, 22 km of the city of Chachapoyas (approximately 1 hour by car). This complex of buildings belongs to times previous to the Incas, characterizes by its circular form and its decoration with frisos in zigzag form and rhombuses. It emphasizes a channel of about 20 km in length.

Purum Llacta
It is located 1 hour and 30 minutes from Chachapoyas, 35 km far. You have to arrive tothe town of Cheto and then make a long walk costs above to appreciate the archaeological complex of Purum Llacta.

Community of Huancas
The community of Huancas is a town that conserves its ancestral customs, dedicated to the pottery, emphasize its beautiful colonial church with its image of the "Lord of the Miracles", its two natural viewpoints, the petroglifos of Pitaya and the canyon of Huancaurco and its beautiful countryside. It is located 10km from Chachapoyas, 15 minutes approximately.

La Jalca
It is located 74 km from Chachapoyas (2 hours and 30 minutes). Jalca Grande is considered “the folkloric capital of Amazon”, it has customs that date from the pre-Hispanic times.

Mausoleos de Revash

Mausoleum of Revash

Lake of the Condors

This museum is directed by the Center Mallqui, institution dedicated to the archaeological and anthropological investigation of old Peruvian cultures, the objects found in the lagoon of the Condores like mummies, textiles, pottery and arms are exhibited in this museum. It is located in the Austria avenue, Leymebamba. It is located 80 km to the south of the city of Chachapoyas (approximately to 3 hours by car). The schedules of the visits are: M-F 8:00 - 13:00 hours and 15:00 - 17:00 hours.

Province of Bagua

Numparket Waterfall
It is Located 40 km to the north of the city of Bagua (approximately 3 hours in car). It is a beautiful waterfall of 90 meters approximately, his base has an area of about 20 km2. When falling the water, the light of the sun crosses the mist and reproduces the colors of the rainbow.

Province of Bongara

Lake Pomacochas
It is located 84 km to the north of the city of Chachapoyas (approximately to 3 hours by car) fist you must arrive until the locality of Pomacochas, then crosses 1 km until the lagoon (30 min on foot). The Lagoon is surrounded by totorales and "enredaderas", has 12km2 of extension and its greater depth reaches the 80 meters, its altitude is above 2150 masl. Its water is of bluish green color and in it inhabit birds like the herons and the "zambullidor".

Gocta Falls
The fall is 771 meters high, it is located in Chachapoyas, about 700 kilometers northeast of Lima, on the starting of the Peruvian jungle, in other words, in the jselvatic area of the Andes of Peru. The Gocta falls did not appear on any maps and had called little attention for its remote location .

Yumbilla Falls
The fall is 895.4 meters high, is located in Chachapoyas. It was discovered in the year 2007. And is the third highest cataract in the world, removing the Waterdall of Gocta from the position. It is also considered the biggest in the region of Amazonas.

Kuelap Fortress

The Kuelap Fortress

Kuelap is located 72 km to the southwest of Chachapoyas (approximately 3 hours in light truck). It was raised in stone by the Chachapoyas civilization around the year 800. Karajia Sarcophagi

These Sarcophagies you found 48 km to the northeast of the city of Chachapoyas (approximately 4 hours by car). They were found in a high farallón and they have an antiquity of 1000 years approximately, the preInca sarcófagos are found 2 meters high, they were molded in mud and decprated with geometric reasons.
